Our new Spring Women's Bible study is about to begin!

Join Beth Moore in an in-depth and very personal examination of this great story of threat and deliverance. If' you've ever felt inadequate, threatened, or pushed into situations that seemed overpowering, this is the study for you. Just as it was tough being a woman in Esther's day, it's tough today. Beth peels back the layers of history and shows how very dontemporary and applicable the story of Esther is to our lives. This portion of God's Word contains treasures to aid us in our hurried, harried, and pressured lives.

DORCAS MINISTRY

"Women Who Care"

The "Dorcas Ministry" (which takes it's name from a woman in Acts 9:36-43 who had a ministry of helping others), is a group of women who want to reach women with a goal of providing physical, spiritual and emotional support. Their focus is on spiritual maturity that is based on demonstrated attitude and action.

Their goals for this next year are to:

* Have monthly luncheons

* Hospital visiting teams

* Shut-in visiting teams

* Provide meals for families facing illness or bereavement

* Be responsive to both spiritual and functional needs

* Maintain a well stocked food pantry for needy families

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'll be celebrating with my sweet little "Punkin"... our grandson, Titus. I hope you all will have a blessed time of Thanks with your special loved ones as well.

Bible Study Update: Ladies Bible Study will take a break for the Thanksgiving Holidays for the week of Nov. 26-27.

We will resume class the week of Dec. 3-4 with week 5 of our "Stepping UP" Bible study.

This has been one of the most impactful studies we have ever done - I can't remember when a study was more "timely" to each of us individually, and to us as a church, community and nation.

There are still a few books left, if anyone would like to purchase one to do the study independantly or as a gift. All books that are not purchased this week will be returned, so if you are thinking about it, be sure and let Brenda in The Gathering Place know.

How Great Is Our God!

At women's retreat this year, we showed this video by Louie Giglio speaking on the greatness of our God. We have had many requests to show this to the whole church, so this Sunday evening, during the prayer service, we are.

You will want your whole family to see this!

You are a miracle and the Creator of the Universe knows you by name.He's big enough to breathe out stars, yet intricate enough to fashion together the trillions of cells that make up every facet of who you are. The God who spoke the universe into existence made you, too, and knows everything about you. From the smallest molecule to the situation you find yourself in right now, He's aware of your circumstances and intimately acquainted with everything you do. And He cares about you and promises to carry you through. That's where we find hope in the midst of the darkest places in life. The journey often complicated and painful, filled with confusion and chaos. Yet, the cross of Christ reveals God's promise to preserve and restore you no matter what the circumstance. He will hold onto you and hold you together, giving strength to those who hope in His unfailing love. He is the everlasting God!

New Fall Bible Study!

Join us as we begin a new Bible study by Beth Moore exploring Psalms 120-134. As you examine these 15 Psalms -essential to praise and worship in Old Testament times - you'll come to a place of greater intimacy with God Who delights in hearing not only our praise, but our petitions as well.

This is a 7 week study beginning October 22/23. Wednesday evening classes are from 6:30- 8:00 PM, and Thursday morning classes are 9:30-11:00 AM in the modular buildings. The cost is $17 which covers books, the video and child care. If you would like to sign up, or more information, email me at becky@babchurch.org. If you are taking the Thursday morning class, please BE SURE and let me know how many children you will need us to provide child care for and their ages. This is a MUST if we are going to be able to provide adequate child care. You may also Sign up in The Gathering Place.

A Letter For You From Belgium

I have a few more pictures from retreat (thank you, Chrisanna) that I want to share with you, and also to share a letter I received from Nadine, a lady in the Taylor's church in Belgium. The Taylors are our missionaries to Belgium (Jeanie and her daughter, Sarah were at retreat with us), and when Nadine heard she was coming here to Boise for our women's retreat, she asked Jeanie to give me this letter. Since it is to all of us, I thought I would just share it with you. Nadine writes:

Dear Ladies,

Some of you may remember me. My name is Nadine Mertens. I came to visit your church in October 2001 for your Missions Conference. I came with my dear friend Teresa Plumb, serving as missionary here in Belgium at the time.

I am very glad to have the opportunity of Jean Taylor's visit with you to send you my best regards. I keep a sweeet souvenir of your kindness towards me when I visited you and some of your ladies took time to make me feel so welcome.

It is incredible that we are now 7 years later. Back in October 2001, your church was praying to find a pastor who would work with deaf people. I had been much impressed by the work your church was doing with deaf people. So back in Belgium ai have continued to pray for your request. What has become of it? Has the Lord fulfilled it? If not, how do you go on with this service? (We still do not have a full time pastor just for the deaf, however, God has brought us Barry Hughes on staff, who also signs for the deaf and often teaches them on the one Sunday a month when they meet for thier own service. We also now have 5 interpreters to sign hearing church for them.)

Dear Ladies, I wish you a very happy retreat. Retreats are always special times for us women to enjoy the gracious love of the Lord for us. It is a time of refreshment as well as joy and sharing precious moments together. I pray for you on this occasion. May the Lord bless you all. Have a good time.

Also, on an update about Grace Baptist in the Houston area (Kay's church), please continue to pray for them and for our churches in that area. Believe it or not, they are STILL dealing with the after effects of Ike - may still without water and power. And of course, many still unable to return to work or with home repairs. As a result, the churches are really taking a hit. Pray for God's provision and that the enemy would not triumph over them in all of this. Any prayers and encouragement would mean so much to them.

Update From Kay Gardner For those of you who were able to attend retreat with us this year, you will remember Kay Gardner, our speaker from Texas (and my little sister… did I mention that before….?) Anyway, if you have been following the news, you know that this latest hurricane hit just a few miles from where she lives and works. Their church is also in a building program – a little further into the process than we are. I spoke with her this weekend just as the storm was hitting – many of their people were among those evacuated. Here is an update from her which she asked me to pass on to you. She writes: Your ladies were fabulous. I enjoyed their sweet spirit so much. Would you “blog” that to them? I really believe it was almost therapy for me! Ben & I thank you for having us… we felt like we were “juiced up” and ready… good thing, huh? (As for the storm) Many in the church are still without power. Almost everyone has a friend or relative without power and whose homes have considerable damage. . We appreciate your prayers very much. Actually, the aftermath is a little scarier than the storm… there is a 3-4 hour wait for gas in Rosenberg. The grocery stores are nearly out of everything. The only meat we could get for our guests the other night was pork steaks… no chicken or beef. However, here in Wharton (where I work) there doesn’t seem to be shortages yet. So we will be shopping here (only 30 minutes from the house). People in the hard hit areas are desperate. We hear them pleading for assistance every day and night on television which is so distressing because we aren’t allowed into those areas for security reasons – trying to keep looters out. We are very blessed with a cool front this week which will really help a lot of people. Can I stick a prayer request in here? The bank that was working on our church’s loan is in one of the parts of Houston that was hit bad. We were supposed to close sometime at the end of September, but we haven’t been able to get a hold of our rep. Now, if God tells you to hush I’ll understand if you can’t follow through on this one. (for those of you at retreat, you will remember Kay speaking on the times God has told her to “Hush!” on certain prayer requests).

Discerning The Voice of God

Bible Study

We just finished our first week of review for our Bible study and we have had a great turn out. In our study, we learned the importance of praying with expectancy - knowing that unless we actually expect to hear from God, we may very well miss His voice. We also learned the importance of waiting before the Lord and of taking His Word as truth above all. And lastly, we learned the importance and role of the Holy Spirit in hearing from God. This week, we are continuing our study of the Holy Spirit. In the video, Priscilla shared a quote that "Not believing in God the Father was the sin of those in the Old Testament. Not believing in God the Son was the sin of those in the New Testament, and not believing in God the Holy Spirit is the sin of our generation." Without an understanding of Who the Holy Spirit is and how He speaks, we will miss much of what God is speaking to us. A few people asked for the quote from the video that was not in our notes about knowing when to "stop, wait, or go". Here it is;

"When you sense the red flag of conviction in your spirit,

that is God's way of saying, "STOP!".

When your conscience is in turmoil and you are in doubt internally

about what to do, WAIT on the Lord to confirm His word and direction.

And when you sense the green light of peace, that is God's way of saying, "Go.""

God bless you this week as you continue to study His word and listen for His voice. I am praying for you.

REPORT FROM "VOICES IN A GARDEN"

We are back from women's retreat and had a GREAT time together in McCall. I will be posting more pictures and info on it as I get them ready, but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed every moment together. I have never been more personally blessed preparing for a retreat - it was almost more than I could stand even before I went! Kay and I just couldn't wait to share with you the things the Lord had shown us. What a GREAT and AWESOME God we worship.

Kay Gardner (my baby sister... or one of them) spoke and I was so blessed and ministered to by her heart and insight. Stephanie Smith led our worship time along with Stacey Hughes and Debby Geer... WOW, what can I say about that. I'm sorry for anyone who missed it - I couldn't get enough. Amanda Bartlett was our MC for the weekend (as well as being in charge of the decorations for the chapel and dining hall. She led a small army of women who literally descended on the camp and transformed it into our "gardens") , and Cindi Smith was our "tech" person. We would not have had the weekend we did without her expertise and constant work. The video presentations she put together were amazing! Aubrey Bissell danced for us on our final morning... how can I describe what worship "looks" like? I can only do what Aubrey does in my heart, so I told her that when she dances before the Lord, she does so for all of us who wished we could. Blessed is too small a word for how I feel about being surrounded by such amazing women. And that doesn't even begin to cover the way I feel about all of you. I am so proud to be a part of this church and to have such a family of "sisters". I love and pray for each of you by name.

Well, this was supposed to be short... so you can only imagine how long it would be if I REALLY said all that I have. I'll just close with "Thank You"!

Yeah, I'm back! Well, I finally figured out how to update this blog. OK, that isn't true. Once again Alisha rescued me. Take a bow Alisha! I have missed meeting together this summer SO MUCH and I am just so excited to get together with you all again. You Do NOT want to miss these upcoming opportunities:

Women's Retreat

is September 5-7 in beautiful McCall, Idaho at the Quaker Hill Retreat Center.

Kay Gardner, pastor's wife and speaker from Rosenberg, Texas will be our special guest and speaker.

The cost is $90, which includes meals Saturday and Breakfast Sunday, lodging, and all retreat materials.

This will be a great time to get away, enjoy "girl" time, relax, and recharge you batteries. Our theme is "Voices from a Garden".

Fall Women's Bible Study

Women's Bible Study starts September 3/4 with Wednesday evening classes from 6:30-8 PM or Thursday morning classes from 9:30-11 AM.

We are doing Priscilla Shirer's "Discerning The Voice Of God". This is a 6 week study and the cost for materials and class are $15.

Our First Mom's Connection Meeting!

On May 23 we had our first Mom's Connection meeting with 18 moms attending. We had food, fellowship, and a time of teaching and sharing. In this first meeting, we focused on getting to know one another and talked about the necessity of hearing from God as we try to raise our children and nurture our families.

The purpose of this Mom's Connection Group is to provide an opportunity for new moms to come together for a time of fun, training, and encouragment - and also to make some connections with mentor moms.

Our next meeting is planned for Saturday, July 12 at 11AM. If you are a new mom, with children under the age of 5, you are welcome to come and join us!

Welcome to Broadway's new women's ministry blog!

It has been a long time coming, and I want to thank the Lovely Alisha (that's her in the middle) for all of her "help" - and encouragement - and prodding - and finally just doing it herself. Without her proactive attitude and assistance, this blog would probably never have come into being - "Bless you, Alisha!" Keep checking this site, 'cause it is only going to get better (no where to go but up!). We'll keep you posted on all the upcoming events throughout the year - and share the good stuff (pictures and updates) on each event as it happens.

Last weekend, over 100 women from Broadway joined with over 5,000 women from all over the state in attending the Living Proof Live! event with Beth Moore in downtown Boise. What a great time of fellowship, singing, laughing, crying and worshipping together it was. "Thank you" to all of you who had a hand in making this event possible. Whether it was praying with women who came forward, interpreting for the deaf, or purchasing tickets to give to women who otherwise would not be able to afford to go, the women of Broadway went above and beyond and I'm so proud to be one of you!
